We are the sole writers of our destiny; no one else is!

For the past few decades, we have been blaming our mistakes on our family and genetics. Heart attack? We blame it on family history. Depression? We say it is genetic. Any other minor inconvenience, and we are all set to blame our family history and genetics. This generation has not learned how to own their mistakes, and so the only coping mechanism is accusing others.

For a fact, the relation between genetics and destiny is one of the most common topics of conversation. If you think that your DNA controls your whole life, you’re rong; at best it controls roughly a third.

Genetics and Destiny

When it comes to genetics, do you believe your whole life depends on them? Are you one of those people who think that everything is predestined and nothing can be changed? If you are a firm believer in predestiny, you need to remember that genetics and fate are two different things.

Some of the most commonly discussed myths and roles of genetics are mentioned below. DNA may play a part in deciding your future, but not entirely.

Genetics and Chronic Diseases

When people contract a chronic disease, they usually put it all on genetics but your DNA is not fully responsible for it.

For example, if a person gets a heart attack, it may be genetic, but there are other reasons, too. Carelessness, stress, improper diet, and anxiety can also lead to a heart attack. Genetics are not always the sole reason behind the illness.

Genetics and Relationship Management

As mentioned earlier, it is very easy for people to put the blame on others and save themselves from guilt and blame. People often spoil realtionships, blaming it on their family history and genetics. Anger issues, abusive behavior, poor communication, and other behavioral issues are virtually all amenable to changed behavior and have little to do with inherited tendencies.

Genetics as a Coping Mechanism

For a lot of people, blaming genetics is a coping mechanism. They feel relieved after putting the blame on their DNA. They do not have the courage to own their mistakes, and so they look for ways of finidng fault with something beyond their control, family history for exmaple.

Genetics and Development

The one thing that almost solely depends on genetics is development. Factors such as eye color, height, weight, and many other physical features do depend on genetics.

Final Word

Is it genetics or our behavior? Remember, our destiny is not fully tied to our genes. They are important, but it is our behavior, lifestyle, diet and will power that control most of what we are, and what we can become.

This interplay between genes and behavior is explored brilliantly in Dave Davis’ newest novel, THE LAST IMMORTAL, available on Amazon everywhere. Search it out. Discover how one person — and maybe more — answer the question, “What woud you do to live forver?”
