The topic of mental health is not a new one. Everyone has either been through stressful circumstances, knows, or witnessed someone who was challenged with it at some point in their lives. According to recent research and studies, nearly one in every five individuals in the U.S. (roughly adding up to 51.5 million) suffer from some mental and or behavioral health problem. The number clearly emphasizes the importance of the matter and stresses how much it needs to be addressed and treated.

The most common solution to treat mental stressors is to utilize support systems (friend, family, community) and consider objectivity through professional mental health counseling. While there is no harm in doing so, many clinicians provide an array of overlapping services, from behavioral skills interventions, counseling/psychotherapy, and many psychotropic medications.

Dr. J McPherson is a known face in the mental health professional community. She has 19+ years of professional experience. Her approach to helping others manage perceived stressful situation is by teaching others how to shift/change their attitude/perspective, by replacing it with positive affirmations, and mindful reprogramming of dysfunctional patterns of behaviors.

Dr. J McPherson believes that the key to sound mental and behavioral health is self-actualizing oneself to a state of the trinity of mental wellness, where one’s mind, body, and spirit are in alignment and free from cognitive dissonance. In choosing and maintaining an optimistic way of life, one should avoid obsessive ruminations and think, do, and be solutions. According to Dr. J, every hurdle in life can be dealt with if the approach is solution-focused. She practices and teaches the philosophy of approaching success, one task at a time, one day at a time; it’s that simple. Thus, we can overcome problems with a well-trained mind grounded in solution focus thinking.

She is a professional health and well-being trainer and emphasizes the importance of a healthy mind, body, spirit, and heart. Dr. J McPherson believes and lives by the theory that real transformation also happens in the heart, and the key lies in understanding how and when to forgive self and others. It requires mental strength, the openness of heart, self-awareness, the willingness to change one’s attitude (thinking) with solution focus perspectives. It needs to be understood that accepting and receiving mental health services is an achievement within itself. Only a small percentage of the number of people who suffer from mental and behavioral challenges actually seek professional help. At the same time, many avoid it due to the stigmas attached to it. So, to address the stigmas of society, Dr. J McPherson has launched her services to teach and treat individuals and systems with essential Life Skills intervention. These life skills serve as prerequisite tools that will help maintain a sound mind, body, and spirit that will free many from ‘perceived’ stressors: worry, fear, doubt, and anxieties.

Dr. J McPherson provides professional health and education services to her clients. What sets her apart is the fact that she combines the traditional ways with her unique techniques that make people feel less stigmatized and empowered, inspired to make mindful lifestyle changes that teaches them how to shift their perspectives, especially in the now.

The foundation of the Wellness Transformation Center was laid in July 2016. Her services and the website aim to teach the individual necessary life skills and techniques that help them combat various stressors like anxiety, depression, self-limiting factors, maladaptive thinking, and irrational errors. The presence of such feelings in one’s life can push them towards negativity, so much that it becomes difficult to cope with life and leads to unforeseen and unpleasant situations.

Dr. J McPherson has a firm belief in having an optimistic outlook on life. No matter how big the problem may seem, there is always something one can hold on to and be inspired by it. Everything in life has something positive about it, but only a healthy, well-informed, or transformed mind is capable of seeing it.

The Wellness Transformer, Dr. J McPherson, has profound knowledge in this field and has been recognized for advocating mental health services locally and internationally. She was truly a gifted child as she began her Bachelor’s degree at the age of 16. She holds a double major degree in Psychology and Sociology at SUNY Geneseo. She acquired her M.A. in Community Counselling from Andrews University in Michigan. In addition to that, she also obtained her doctorate degree from a CACREP counseling program in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES) from Washington’s Argosy University.

As a practicing Clinical Therapist at MHH Clinical Services, she continues to practice, maintain, and develop her: psychotherapy, behavioral specialist, and psychoeducational skills. She has compiled her theories, experiences, and learnings into a book named ‘The Shift in Perspective,’ which will be released soon. This is a handbook that teaches how to transform one’s wellness by thinking well, doing well, and living free from ‘perceived’ stressors such as worry, fear, doubt, anxieties.

With selfless and talented personalities like Dr. J McPherson, who think about a more significant cause and strive to make society a better place, the world’s youth is undoubtedly in good hands!
